VIPS is changing it’s name to Inspiring Minds

Inspiring Minds is a not for profit educational organization dedicated to enabling our city’s students to succeed in school by providing them with educational support services and individualized help so that they can grow academically and socially. Inspiring Minds vision is that all Providence public school students have an equal chance for success.

Facts about our Kids

Providence's students have many barriers to academic success.

  • Providence has 2,064 English language learners, 1,449 bilingual students, and 362 eligible but not enrolled (ENE) in its public schools.
  • Of the 23,560 Providence public school students, more than 86% are designated as "low income students" and qualify for free or reduced lunch.
  • Providence has the 3rd highest child poverty rate in America:

Low Test Scores
These barriers translate into low test scores. 75% of Providence's 10th graders are below grade level in math.

How We Help
With the help of Inspiring Minds’ 1,300 volunteers, over 2,500 students receive the individualized tutoring they need to succeed.

In a study of 108 Inspiring Minds’ students, 78% improved their writing ability.
