A Grand Success!
Over 275 attendees enjoyed listening to Robert Flanders, Esq., Chair of Rhode Island’s Board of Regents and former Rhode Island Supreme Court Justice share his thoughts: "My Impression of Public Education in R.I. After a Year on the Job."
VIPS awarded the Helen King Lifelong Learning Award to two former college presidents who for years have made significant educational contributions to the community, Roger Mandle, Rhode Island School of Design, and John Nazarian, Rhode Island College. Local retired-educator, community volunteer and long-time supporter of the arts and education Pearl Nathan received the Knowledge Is Power Award for her longstanding commitment to public education.
Also honored for their invaluable work with Providence public school students are four outstanding community volunteers:
Technology & Learning Center Community Volunteer Award, Greenville resident, Robert Tow.
Collegiate Volunteer Award, Cumberland resident, Kyle Duguay.
Reading Buddies College Volunteer Award, Cumberland resident, Melissa Kay.
Reading Buddies Community Volunteer Award, Providence resident, Janine Schwartz.
