Facts about our Kids

Providence's students have many barriers to academic success.

  • Providence has 5,745 English language learners (23% of total students) enrolled in its public schools.
  • Of the 25,615 Providence public school students, 21,360 are designated as "low income students" and qualify for free or reduced lunch.

Low Test Scores
These barriers translate into low test scores. 80% of Providence's 10th graders are below grade level in math.

How We Help
With the help of VIPS’ 1,300 volunteers, over 3,000 students receive the individualized tutoring they need to succeed.
