A long time VIPS tutor helps her student prepare for final exams.Tutoring/Mentoring
All of VIPS' tutoring and mentoring programs are designed to help students achieve success in school. VIPS' program have a positive impact, and we witness the academic and social progress our students make. Each year, 1,200 VIPS' tutors help 3,000 students advance in reading, writing, math and social skills. Parents and teachers note that VIPS' tutored students improve in attendance, class participation and attitude about learning. One tutor's comment, "I get so much more out of working with my student than I give" reflects the comments of many VIPS' volunteers, as they derive great joy and satisfaction from helping the students.
Consider what one tutor told VIPS about her experience, "I am really enjoying my tutoring experience at Flynn School. The classroom teacher is great. Everything is very structured, so I always know what to do. I have been working one-on-one with a few students who are all amzing."

Tutoring
All children need help, whether it’s decoding the alphabet or understanding physics. VIPS recruits caring adults to work one-on-one or with a small group of students in school and after school, and tutors work with students at all grade levels. We recruit volunteer tutors who can help students with every academic subject and at every level - from basic reading and arithmetic to complex chemistry and calculus.
In-school tutoring is available for elementary and middle school students.
College Collaborative Education
VIPS offers college students the opportunity to tutor Providence public school students. It's a win-win situation, as college students, especially those pursuing education degrees, gain valuable classroom experience, and younger students get extra help.
Mentoring
VIPS offers in-school mentoring for elementary and middle school students. You can be a positive, supportive role model and sounding board for a student who needs some extra attention.
Uno a Uno Mentoring Program
Uno a Uno is a unique academic mentoring program that matches an adult with a Hispanic fourth or fifth grader. We encourage all interested volunteers, though we are particularly eager for Hispanic volunteers or any adults who speaks Spanish. After school and Saturday tutoring is available at our Technology Center. After-school tutoring is for high school students, and Saturday tutoring is for middle school students .
