Volunteers in Providence Schools
Helping Kids Make the Grade
Kids Doing Crafts

VIPS is a not for profit educational organization dedicated to enabling our city’s students to succeed in school by providing them with educational support services and individualized help so that they can grow academically and socially. VIPS vision is that all Providence public school students have an equal chance for success.
Third Graders Receiving Books from VIPS A classroom of lucky third graders receive new books courtesy of VIPS' RIF program which distributes thousands of books annually.

Literacy Programs

Reading is FUNdamental

Through VIPS' participation in RIF (Reading is FUNdamental), approximately 5,000 Providence public school students select three free books each year.  Students in grades K through 3 from 18 participating schools benefit from RIF.  The oldest book distribution program in the United States, RIF began in the 1960s, and the U.S. Department of Education provides funds to qualifying RIF sites.  During VIPS' 20 year history with RIF, we have provided more than 300,000 free books to children who otherwise might not own any books.
